Yesterday we consigned all our rose petals to the earth, turned things over and planted a variety of bulbs, whose flowers we hope to see in the spring, all in pots unmarked and so there will be a little surprise if and when they all come through. I am late with things this year for all the wrong reasons.
I sometimes think I use this malady as an excuse for abject laziness. I do try to get things together. I wake in the morning with the ideas to do things fresh in mind. Then up I get to feel the overarching weariness that so saps the motive and the motion. It is strange that the shower, which once invigorated, now enervates and as one would lean forward a huge elastic band is looped around one's waist to become a brake.
I get out less these days but today into the almost icy freshening breeze from the estuary I was glad to let my cheeks know that a part of me is still alive.
By the low tide sea
Sextant by his side
The celestial navigator
Sets his course.
Contemptuous of GPS
His arcane wisdom
Shouldered to the sky
He feels the earth move
As he runs aground.
