And underfoot
Beneath the sandal
Or the boot
Wild thyme and camomile.
Etched on the staff
Grasped in the hand,
A cross to point direction.
On our cloak roughly pinned
The scallop shell
A badge of most humble authority
The plainest of human kind
On the golden journey.
