On The Other Hand

Today
The Christmas people came
With sounding brass
And lights in all the trees
With rattling boxes,
Shopping bags,
And squealing
Tesco trolley wheels.
On they marched
Through checkouts
With ping opened tills
Too rushed to notice,
Lying,
By the boarded door,
The frail beseeching hand
That called out
From the floor.
